Extreme Weight Loss

Setting a goal to lose weight—even extreme weight loss, sounds easy. It is much more difficult to put that goal into practice. To experience success it takes a commitment; it takes much more discipline than one will ever be able to imagine. A diet plan as well as diet control will become paramount if achieving your targeted weight loss goal is to be met. Exercise is also another area that will need to be dealt with before the program draws to a close.

Crash dieting is probably the number one extreme weight loss method used in the US today. The dieter sets a goal limiting his/her calorie intake far below the recommended normal standard. A crash diet could mean eating salad made with a variety of raw vegetables three times a day for a certain period of time. Some people opt for all fruits and/or juices for 3-10 days in an effort to jump start their metabolism.

While this might seem extreme to most people those who set out by eliminating food altogether to only consume liquids in an attempt to obtain their goal believe that by limiting their intake of calories the body will be forced to burn stored fat in an attempt to keep energy levels up. In theory it is a working plan but often this extreme weight loss method only succeeds in leading to fatigue. Caution should be exercised.

Diet pills and supplementation are two other means of extreme weight loss. They work by utilizing chemicals and/or herbs to curb the appetite, to speed up the metabolism or to reduce the amount of fats the body will absorb. This method can be effective in curbing the intake of calories but many people find the side effects to be more than undesirable. This is especially true with pills that speed the metabolism. It has been described as being like drinking coffee until you have the jitters only 10 times worse.

Pills that have been designed to reduce fat absorption have a reputation of causing unwanted side effects involving the gastrointestinal tract. They can cause diarrhea or cramps and other digestive problems. For this reason some very obese people choose to have surgery blocking off part of their stomach and making it impossible to over eat. Though considered a last resort it can help those who are in danger of serious health issues to effectively drop the weight they need to in order to enjoy a better quality of life.
